We offer two modes of intervention here at Yarraman Lodge: Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Equine Assisted Learning.
Equine assisted psychotherapy is an innovative approach to clinical practice, counselling and mental health where clients are invited into safe relational experiences with horses to address therapeutic goals.
Equine assisted learning uses a similar approach to equine assisted psychotherapy however the relational experiences with the horses are designed to achieve learning goals, not therapeutic.
The equine experiences that trained practitioners offer vary depending on the client’s needs, goals and wants but may include horse observations, meeting horses at liberty, ground/leadline sessions such as grooming and leading, obstacle challenges, herd sessions, led mounted sessions and riding sessions.
At Yarraman Lodge, clinical practitioners are trained through the Equine Psychotherapy Institute (EPI), an organisation that offers the highest-level training in Equine Assisted Practice available in Australia and is setting the standard for professionals working with horses in a therapeutic setting.
